Harvest field work 2022: wine landscapes in the Monção and Melgaço sub-region.

     Between Monção and Melgaço, right in the nothwest of the country, a region that is the birthplace of the Alvarinho, one of the noblest white grape varieties in the world - with a total vineyard area of 1340 hectares, 2085 wine growers and a total wine production of approximately 10 million liters - a region that has a unique temperate Atlantic influenced micro-climate, moderated by the mountains on the Spanish side of the border, the river Minho and the mountains on the Portuguese side and soils of predominantly granitic composition. In this sub-region the harvest also started earlier this year and the effects of the unusually dry and very hot year were felt, with a drop in grape yield of between 10 to 15%.

    Quinta do Paço is located in the Monção and Melgaço sub-region, in the parish of Valadares, vineyards are at an altitude between 83 to 98 meters and the river Minho is at a distance of 1,1km.

     Entre Monção e Melgaço, mesmo no noroeste do país, a região que é o berço da casta Alvarinho, uma das mais nobres castas brancas do mundo - com uma área total de vinha de 1340 hectares, 2085 viticultores e uma produção de vinho total de aproximadamente 10 milhões de litros - uma região com um microclima único, temperado e de influência atlântica, moderado pelas montanhas do lado espanhol da Galiza, pelo rio Minho e pelas montanhas do lado português, solos de composição predominantemente granítica. Nesta sub-região, os efeitos do ano atípicamente seco e muito quente, também se fizeram sentir, com uma quebra do rendimento da uva entre os 10 e os 15%.

    A Quinta do Paço está localizada na freguesia de Valadares, com vinhas a uma altitude entre os 83 e os 98 metros e o rio Minho a uma distância de 1,1km.

The "Nitreira" vineyard, a century old vineyard. The ancient and traditional grapevine training system that the images above and below show is called "Ramada", which occurs in reduced areas and usually on the edges of the farmland.
