     O filme documentário "Setembro a Vida Inteira", da autoria de Ana Sofia Fonseca, jornalista com uma louvável atracção pelo mundo do vinho e pela curiosidade das suas histórias, de que nos dá conta na sua bibliografia, com os livros editados "Barca Velha, Histórias de um Vinho - desde 1952" e também "Cada Garrafa Conta uma História".

    A sinopse:

    "Um país. 700 milhões de garrafas. Mais de 2000 anos de história. Todos os calendários, a sorte jogada em Setembro. Homens, mulheres e crianças contam a vida pelas vindimas. Quantas histórias cabem numa garrafa?

    The documentary film "A Whole Life of September", by Ana Sofia Fonseca, a journalist with an irresistible attraction for the world of wine and its stories that se tell us in her edited bibliography, "Barca Velha, Stories of a Wine - since 1952", and also "Each Bottle Tells a Story".

    The synopsis:

    "One Country. 700 million bottles. Over 2000 years of history. In every calendar, the die is cast in September. Men, women and children measure their lives in harvests. How many stories are there in a bottle?

    The world has only began to discover portuguese wine and this documentary is its portrayal. With wine as the main character, the film journeys through the intimacy of vineyards, cellars and souls, unveiling passions, crimes and adventures.

    A universal theme with the local alchemy. Wine people are the passport to understand Portugal.

    Because nothing else ferments like a good story.".

   The author intends to show us a different and original perspective, away from the common places, the great wine houses and the main and usual characters of this universe, with a journey and a story told through 8 wine families.

The photography exhibition "Porto & Douro through the lens"

    In the Gaia historical center, on rua do Choupelo, n.º 63, in the old Croft Port wine warehouses, until the end of October, it is possible to visit a photography exhibition of the first major photographers in Portugal, dating from 1845 to 1975. A precious and beautiful selection with historical images centered on the city of Oporto and the Douro region, highlighting the places and experiences, the diferent stages of Port wine production, in the douro and on the Gaia warehouses, some palces that still exist today as well as others who have not resisted the the action of man and the passage of time.

    As part of this exhibition, a preview of the future of this site is also presented with the project called "World of Wine", sponsored by the Fladgate Partnership (which integrates the Taylor's, Fonseca, Croft and Wiese & Krohn Port wine brands), which will contribute decisivily to the wave of decharacterization and even desctruction of the physiognomy of the Gaia historic centre which has taken place in recent years.

    Following the order and texts of the exhibition, the four great entities that once had headquarters in Oporto: 

"Emílio Biel, photographer and mover of causes (1838-1915)

"Emílio Biel & Ca." was founded by Emílio Biel, who was born in Amberg, Bavaria, and died in Oporto. He was photographer of the Royal House, photographer of the ordinary people and also author of the famous collection "Art and Nature in Portugal", which was printed in photype, in 8 volumes, from 1902 to 1908, one of them dedicated to Oporto and a number of others to the Douro region.

He was the owner of a button shop and through that, representative of Coats & Clark. He was also representative of Benz and other firms, including Shuckert, a german firm that producec dymanos for electric power production. It was then that one of his major initiatives began: bringing public lighting to Vila Real by supplying the machines to "Companhia Eléctrica e Indústrial" for the production of energy. However, the start of the project was delayed by several setbacks. Hence, Biel decided to buy the cpompany and was therefore able to develop the whole project himself and bring street lighting to the city of Vila Real.

In addition to this achievement, Biel was also the driving force behind a number of other projects. He became a director of Águas do Gerês (Gerês Water Company), developed projects for the first street trams in Portugal, amassed a remarkable butterfly collection, which is currently in the Museum of Zoology of the University of Porto and considered one of the largest collections in the world. He was also a literary editor and published an edition of "Os Lusíadas", which is now considered a true rarity.

However it was photograpy that brought him to the public eye. In 1874, he bought the old Fritz shop on rua do Almada, which quickly became knowned as Casa Biel and initiated remarkable work in the world of Portuguese photography.

Biel showed the world a new side to photography: the possibility of reconciling the commercial concern with artistic and documentary values. In 1911, his company published a work called "The Douro" by Manuel Monteiro, which is profusely illustrated with his photographs and those of his contemporaries.

Frederick William Flower (1815-1889)

Frederick Flower was a pioneer of photography in Portugal. Born in Scotland of English parents, he arrived in Oporto in 1834, at the age of nineteen, to work in the Port wine trade. Most of his photographs were taken in Oporto, Vila Nova de Gaia and other cities in Northern Portugal between about 1849 and 1859, using the calotype method developed by the english scientist William Henry Fox-Talbot and patented in 1841. Unlike the first photographic technics, such as the daguerreotype, the Fox-Talbot method used paper negatives, called calotypes or talbotypes, which could be reproduced multiple times. Whereas photographic methods were most often used for portraiture and studio photography, the calotype became primarily a medium for architectural and landscape photography. In many cases, Frederick Flower's photographs represent the first images ever made of the places and buildings they depict and are remarkable, not only for their technical and artistic merit, but for their historical and archeological value. The collection of Frederick Flower's photographs, preserved over the years by his descendants, is currently stored at the Arquivo de Documentação Fotográfica of the National Office of Cultural Heritage.

House of Alvão and its founder Domingos Alvão (1869-1946)

"The Alvão Photography studio was founded by Domingos Alvão on 2nd January 1901in the city of Porto. Domingos Alvão and António Cardoso Azevedo were the two great masters photographers of the house.
Domingos do Espirito Santo Alvão was born in Porto and died in the same city. At a very young age he went to work for the House of Biel and in 1901 he took in the International exhibition of Leipzig. Following this, in 1907, he earned the Diploma of Merit in the World Competition of Artistic and Scientific Photography in Turin, Italy, The photographs Domingos Alvão sent to competition in Leipzig and Turin were part of a collection of aroun 700 images to which he devoted part of his time. These covered landscapes and regional costumes of the Minho and Douro Litoral and where staged to match the artistic style of pictorialism. He began to win many national and international prizes when he took part in shows in Porto, Lisbon and Panamá with the series "Artistic Landscapes and Portuguese Costumes". Alvão's photographs were often used to represent Portugal on the walls of the countries embassies.

Domingos Alvão and the House of Alvão won many national and international awards which led to commissions by various institutions to carry out photographic works on their behalf. This was the case in 1933, when the Port Wine Institute requested their services to create a general photographic survey of the demarcated region of the Douro Valley. covering all aspects of production, transporttation, bottling and export of Port wine.

The House of Alvão collection was aquired by the "Instituto Português do Património Cultural" (Portuguese Institute of Cultural Heritage) and currently, the Portuguese Centre of Photography has been carrying out the physical and documentary treatment of the photographs."

The Beleza Photographic Studio
"The Beleza Photographic Studio was founded by António Beleza in 1907.
Prior to this, Beleza had his own studio "Royal Foto", on rua do Almada 122, a traditional photographic studio area in the city. This was where the House of Fritz Photography was located, which Emílio Biel later bought. When Emílio Biel moved his studio to Palácio do Bolhão in 1888, António beleza took over the old studio in rua do Almada and, as was the custom, he took on other assets, including the plates, the machines and the decors. After Biel's death, he bought part of the collection which were sold i public auction.
The Beleza Photographic Studio at rua Santa Teresa attracted the bourgeois clientele and had an elegant waiting room decorated with portraits of Porto high society.
The Beleza Photographic Studio left behind a collection of several hundred thousand phtographic documents, one of the largest collectons known in Portugal, including more than 10,000 photographs of urban landscapes on glass plates. In addition, there are portraits of people from the North of Portugal, particularly of Oporto and the adjoining area.
In 2007 a full inventory of the Beleza Photographic collection was made by CEPESE and this is now available to view at espólio fotográfico português

A exposição fotográfica "Porto e Douro através da lente"

(The old "Croft" Port wine lodges / os antigos armazéns de vinho do Porto da "Croft")

    Em pleno centro histórico de Gaia, na rua do Choupelo, n.º 63, nos antigos armazéns da Croft, até final de Outubro, é possível visitar um exposição de fotografia dos primeiros principais fotógrafos em Portugal, datadas de 1845 a 1975. Um precioso espólio, com imagens históricas centradas na cidade do Porto e na região duriense, com destaque para os lugares e vivências, as fases de produção do vinho do Porto, no Douro e no Entreposto de Gaia, reconhecem-se lugares e locais que ainda hoje existem e é possível identificar, assim como outros que não resistiram à acção do homem e à passagem do tempo.

     No âmbito desta exposição, é também apresentada uma perspectiva do futuro deste local, com a apresentação do projecto chamado "World of Wine" que, com a responsabilidade e patrocínio da Fladgate Partnership (que integra as marcas de vinho do Porto, Taylor's, Fonseca, Croft e Wiese & Krohn) irá contribuir decisivamente para a vaga de acelerada descaracterização e mesmo destruição do centro histórico de Gaia que tem ocorrido nos últimos anos.

    Seguindo a ordem e os textos da exposição, as quatro grandes entidades que outrora tiveram sede no Porto:

"Emílio Biel, um fotógrafo impulsionador de causas (1838 - 1915)
A empresa Emílio Biel & Ca. foi criada por Emílio Biel, que nasceu em Amberg, na Baviera, e faleceu no Porto. Fotógrafo da Casa Real, fotógrafo do povo e autor da famosa colecção "A Arte e a Natureza em Portugal", impressa em fototipia em 8 volumes, de 1902 a 1908, com um volume dedicado ao Porto e uma série à região do Douro, Emílio Biel foi premiado em muitas exposições, com medalhas de ouro e prata.
Foi proprietário de uma casa de botões, sendo o representante da Coats & Clark, foi ainda representante da Benz e de outras firmas, entre as quais a Shuckert, uma firma alemã que fabricava dínamos para a produção de energia eléctrica. E aqui começa uma das suas grandes iniciativas: levar a iluminação pública a Vila Real, fornecendo máquinas à Companhia Eléctrica e Industrial, para a produção de energia. No entanto, alguns contratempos adiam a entrada em funcionamento do projecto e à então que Biel compra a empresa e dá ele corpo a todo o projecto, concretizando a luz pública de Vila Real.
Além desta conquista, Biel foi ainda impulsionador de causas: foi administrador da empresa Águas do Gerês e fez projectos para os primeiros carros eléctricos, elaborou uma notável colecção de borboletas, actualmente no Museu de Zoologia da Universidade do Porto, sendo considerada uma das maiores colecções do mundo. Foi ainda editor livreiro, publicando uma edição d'Os Lusíadas, actualmente considerada uma verdadeira raridade.
Mas, no entanto, é na fotografia que verdadeiramente se faz notar. Em 1874 compra a antiga Casa Fritz, na rua do Almada, que rapidamente ficou conhecida como Casa Biel, iniciando assim, um trabalho notável no panorama da fotografia portuguesa.
Podemos dizer que Biel mostrou uma nova face da fotografia, a possibilidade de conciliar a preocupação comercial com a preocupação artística e documental. Em 1911, a sua firma edita a obra "O Douro" de Manuel Monteiro, profusamente ilustrada com fotografias suas e dos seus contemporâneos."

Frederick William Flower (1815 - 1889)
"Frederick Flower foi um pioneiro da fotografia, Nascido na Escócia de pais ingleses, veio para o Porto em 1834, à idade de dezanove anos, para trabalhar no negócio do vinho do Porto. A maioria das suas fotografias foram realizadas no Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia e outras cidades do norte de Portugal, no período aproximado de 1849 a 1859, utilizando a técnica da calotipia desenvolvida pelo cientista inglês William Henry Fox-Talbot e patenteada em 1841. Ao contrário das primeiras técnicas fotográficas, com a daguerrotipia, o método Fox-Talbot empregava negativos de papel, chamados calotipos ou talbotipos, que permitiam a execução de múltiplas reproduções. Enquanto os métodos fotográficos anteriores eram mais vocacionados para os retratos e para a fotografia de estúdio, a calotipia veio a ser mais usada para a fotografia de paisagens e de arquitectura. Em muitos casos, a fotografia de Frederick William Flower constituem as primeiras imagens alguma vez captadas dos locais e dos edifícios fotografados, sendo notáveis, não apenas pela sua qualidade técnica e artística, mas pelo seu valor histórico e arqueológico. O espólio fotográfico de Frederick Flower, preservado pelos seus descendentes, encontra-se depositado no Arquivo Fotográfico da Direcção Geral do Património Cultural"

Casa Alvão e o seu fundador Domingos Alvão (1869 - 1945)
" A Casa de fotografia Alvão foi fundada e inaugurada por Domingos Alvão, em 2 de Janeiro de 1901, na cidade do Porto, casa que veio a ter dois grandes mestres fotógrafos, Domingos Alvão e Álvaro Cardoso Azevedo. 
Domingos Espiríto Santo Alvão, nasceu na freguesia da Lapa, no Porto, e morreu na mesma cidade. Ainda muito novo foi trabalhar para a casa Biel, e em 1901, participou na Exposição Internacional de Leipzig tendo em 1907 recebido um Diploma de Mérito no Concurso Mundial de Fotografia Artística e Científica de Turim, Itália. As imagens que Domingos Alvão enviou ao concurso de Leipzig e Turim faziam parte de uma recolha de cerca de 700 clichés a que ele dedicava parte do seu tempo; tratava-se de fotografias de paisagens e costumes do Minho e Douro litoral, encenadas de forma a corresponderem aos objectivos artísticos do pictorialismo. Com a série Quadros da Paisagem Artística e Costumes Portugueses, concorreu e expôs a mostras no Porto, Lisboa e Panamá, iniciando a sua enorme série de prémios nacionais e internacionais. As fotografias Alvão eram muitas vezes procuradas para representarem o país nas paredes das embaixadas.
Domingos Alvão e a Casa Alvão conquistaram imensos prémios, condecorações, medalhas e distinções nacionais e internacionais, o que levou a que fosse contactado por diversas entidades para a realização de vários trabalhos fotográficos, como é o caso do Instituto do Vinho do Porto, que em 1933, solicitou os seu serviços para o levantamento geral do território do Douro, trabalhos relativos à produção, transporte, engarrafamento e exportação do vinho do Porto.
O espólio da Casa Alvão foi adquirido pelo Instituto Português do Património Cultural (IPPC) e, actualmente, o Centro Português de Fotografia tem vindo a fazer o tratamento físico e documental das espécies fotográficas. A documentação deste fundo compreende as imagens relativas a levantamentos da área vinhateira do Douro, fábricas, hidroeléctricas, barragens, hospitais, bairros económicos, exposições, inaugurações, congressos, personalidades, paisagens, usos e costumes, regiões, localidades portuguesas, monumentos, urbanismo, transportes terrestres, retratos de estúdio e de grupo."

A Fotografia Beleza
"A Fotografia Beleza é fundada por António Beleza em 1901.
Antes desta casa, António Beleza tivera a sua "Royal Foto", na rua do Almada, 122, espaço de grande tradição fotográfica da cidade. Aí estivera a Fotografia Fritz, que Emílio Biel acabaria por comprar. Quando Biel passou o seu estúdio para o Palácio do Bolhão em 1888, António Beleza ocupou o espaço da rua do Almada e, como era habitual, ainda adquiriu parte do espólio das chapas, das máquinas e dos "decors". Em concreto, sabe-se que após a morte de Emílio Biel, António Beleza comprou parte do espólio da Casa Biel, vendido em hasta pública no ano de 1916.
É na Fotografia Beleza da rua de Santa Teresa - a partir de 1918 dirigida por Moreira de Campos e, em 1935, tendo como único proprietário António Lopes Moreira - que a burguesia do Porto se revê, possuindo o estúdio uma elegante sala de espera, onde se exibiam retratos da melhor sociedade do Norte.
A Fotografia Beleza deixou um conjunto de várias centenas de milhares de documentos fotográficos - um dos maiores espólios que, até ao momento, se conhece em Portugal, no qual se incluem mais de 10 000 fotografias em chapas de vidro, de paisagens, nomeadamente paisagem urbana. As restantes espécies são retratos de pessoas do Norte, com relevância para o Porto e arredores."

Port Wine Day e o dia do vinho do Porto

    A toast (with Port wine)...

    to commemorate the 261st anniversary of the approval and creation of the Companhia Geral de Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro (something like the Upper Douro Vineyards Agriculture General Company) and the establishment of the first demarcated and regulated wine region in the world, with the demarcation of the "Alto Douro" vineyards in 1756.

    On the inniciative of the IVDP (Port and Douro Wine Institute) since 2014, the 10th September is officially celebrated as the international day of Port wine.

    para comemorar o aniversário dos 261 anos da aprovação e criação da Companhia Geral de Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro e da instituição da primeira região vitivinícola demarcada e regulamentada do mundo, com a demarcação das "Vinhas do Alto Douro" em 1756.

Niepoort Open Door 2017, 3rd edition: Niepoortland 3

    On the summer afternoon of last July 1st, 2017, in the Niepoort cellars gardens in Vila Nova de Gaia, the third edition of the "Niepoort Open Door 2017" was held. Always an occasion not to be missed and an event to register in the serious oenophile agenda.

    A relaxed and informal opportunity to get to know the Niepoort universe, everything Niepoort has to offer, presented by the Niepoort family, the Colaborators team and wine making friends, who were the perfect hosts.

     Among several national and international proposals, some novelties and special and unique wines, we highligt here the following (tasted):

After starting with a "Legras" champagne, complex and full of character, 

the "Domaine Allain Graillot" wine, from Crozes Hermitages, Vallé du Rhône, France, 

"Sottimano", Barbaresco, Italy,

"Terroir al Limit", Priorat, Spain,

a great choice of "Buçaco" red wines, including one from the 1982 harvest in excellent shape,

"Soalheiro", among the wines presented, two natural wines, the "Soalheiro Terramatter 2016, an unfiltered organic Alvarinho grapes wine, and a first edition, the novelty "Soalheiro Nature Pur Terroir 2016", also an unfiltered biological and without sulphites Alvarinho wine.

..."Nat'Cool", the new and very interesting project with a new registered brand, that associates wine producing friends and whose concept is the production of wines that respect the land, nature and the ecosystem, almost without oenological intervention, trying to preserve the maximum of all the grape components, with spontaneous fermentation, without extraction, with minimum intervention in the cellar, without the use of sulphurous and without corrections of acidity, for which the grapes are harvested earlier, a process that originates fresh and low alchool degree wines.

The Niepoort wines: a fantastic "Redoma Reserve white 1994", from the Bairrada region, the novelty "Gonçalves Faria 2013", white and red, a "Merlot Bairrada 2012" and a "Syrah Bairrada 2012", the new sparkling wine "Água Viva bruto blanc des blancs 2013", and the baga grape wines, "Poeirinho 2014" and "Poeirinho Garrafeira 2012".
And the Port wines, the cask samples "Niepoort LBV 2013" and "Niepoort 2015 Bioma Vinha Velha Vintage Port" and the "Niepoort Crusted" 2014 bottling and finally, as it is already a tradition, the opening and decanting of a single and very special "Niepoort Porto Garrafeira 1987"demijohn.

    Na tarde de verão do passado dia 1 de Julho, nos jardins das caves Niepoort, em Vila Nova de Gaia, realizou-se a terceira edição "Niepoort Portas Abertas 2017". É sempre uma ocasião a não perder e um evento de interesse que deve marcar a agenda de todo o enófilo sério.

    Uma óptima oportunidade para conhecer o universo Niepoort, tudo o que a Niepoort tem para oferecer neste ano, apresentado pela família, a equipa de colaboradores e amigos produtores de vinho, os perfeitos anfitriões.

    Entre propostas nacionais e internacionais, algumas novidades e também vinhos especiais e únicos, deixamos aqui alguns (provados) em destaque:

Depois do início com o champagne "Legras", complexo e cheio de carácter, 

os vinhos do "Domaine Alain Graillot" (Crozes Hermitage, Vallé du Rhône, França),

"Sottimano" (Barbaresco, Itália),

"Terroir al Limit" (Priorat, Espanha),

os grandes vinhos "Buçaco", tintos no caso, incluíndo um da colheita de  1982, em excelente forma, 

"Soalheiro" que, entre os vinhos do seu portfolio nas colheitas mais recentes, dois vinhos naturais, o "Soalheiro Terramatter 2016", um Alvarinho não filtrado de agricultura biológica, e também, em primeira edição, a novidade "Soalheiro Nature Pur Terroir 2016", também um vinho biológico, não filtrado e sem adição de sulfitos.

Os vinhos do Dão de António Madeira, em busca da essência da região e um dos associados do projecto...

...Nat'Cool, o interessante projecto, com uma nova marca registada, que associa amigos produtores de vinho e que tem como principio a produção de vinhos que respeitem a terra e que preservem a natureza e o ecossistema, quase sem intervenção enológica, que tentam conservar ao máximo todos os componentes da uva, com fermentações espontâneas, sem extracção, com o mínimo de intervenção na adega, sem a utilização de sulfuroso, sem correcções de acidez, para o que as vindimas ocorrem mais cedo e que originam vinhos frescos e com pouco grau alcoólico.

Nos vinhos "Niepoort", foi servido um excelente "Redoma Reserva branco 1994", dos vinhos da Bairrada, a novidade "Gonçalves Faria 2013", branco e tinto, "Merlot Bairrada 2012" e "Syrah Bairrada 2012", o novo espumante "Água Viva" bruto, blanc des blancs 2013, e depois nos tintos baga, "Poeirinho 2014" e "Poeirinho Garrafeira 2012".

Nos vinhos do Porto, as amostras de casco "Niepoort LBV 2013" e "Niepoort 2015 Bioma Vinha Velha Vintage Port" e depois "Niepoort Crusted" engarrafado em 2014. Por fim, como já é tradição, a abertura e decantação do único e sempre muito especial demijohn "Niepoort Porto Garrafeira 1987".

    "To produce this exclusive limited edition blend, our winemakers have drawn on Taylor's extensive reserves of old cask aged Ports and selected individual component wines originally set aside for the company's 10, 20, 30 and 40 Year Old Tawnies.

    This opulent and seductive aged Tawny is fitting commemoration of Taylor's 325th anniversary and a tribute to the firm's expertise in ageing and blending the finest cask aged Ports."

    "Antique sealed bottles.

    The enjoyment of wine is part of cultural history, as is the development of the glass bottle. The romans made a decisive contribution to bottle manufacture by developing the art of glass blowing. This led eventually to the appearance of mould-blown in around 1st century B.C..

    Later the practice emerged of attaching seals to bottles to identify their owners. Normally circular in shape, these seals bore the owners name, initials, crest or other personal symbol. From the 17th to the 19th century, landed gentry and other well-to-do families ordered personalized sealed bottles as a statement of wealth and status. Vintners and merchants also ordered bottles bearing their commercial symbols. At that time, bottles were used primarily to convey wine from the taverner's cask to the table and were used in the same way as a carafe or decanter would be today.

    This bottle is based on a unique 17th century sealed bottle, made at around the time of our foundation in 1692. It is the earliest example of an intact bottle bearing a merchant's mark, in this case the "4" and "XX" symbol still used as Taylor's trademark to this day.".

"Life on the Douro", a documentary

    

 "Life on the Douro" is a 90 minute documentary, directed by Zev Robinson - that will be shown in London next June 12th (presentation details here: eventbrite.co.uk), and later this year, in October/November in New York - made between 2010 and 2012, it's the result of 5 trips and 45 days of filming, a must-see for all Port wine and Douro enthusiasts. 

   It´s a journey that takes us through the Douro valley landscapes, the city of Porto and the Port wine warehouses in Gaia, and its rich history of centuries, with some beautiful imagens, and above all very interesting for the past, present and future portrait of the Douro region and the Port wine business, the perspectives and opinions presented to us by the representatives of some of the most important Port wine houses, but also of the Douro based smaller producers.

"Life on the Douro", um documentário

    "Life on the Douro" é um documentário de 90 minutos, realizado por Zev Robinson - que será exibido no próximo dia 12 de junho, em Londres (mais detalhes desta apresentação aqui: eventbrite.co.uk) e depois, em Outubro/Novembro em Nova York - foi elaborado entre 2010 e 2012 e é o resultado de 5 viagens e 45 dias de filmagens, obrigatório para todos os entusiastas de região do Douro e do vinho do Porto.

    É uma viagem que nos leva pelas paisagens do vale do Douro, pela cidade do Porto e pelo armazéns de Gaia, pela sua rica história de séculos, com bonitas imagens e acima de tudo muito interessante pelo retrato passado, presente e futuro, as perspectivas e opiniões apresentadas pelos representantes das mais importantes casas de vinho do Porto, mas também pelo produtores engarrafadores mais pequenos com base no Douro.

Taylor's 1692-2017: Retracing history by sea!

#Taylor325, the sea voyage of a special Port wine cask to London.

    To commemorate its 325th anniversary, this year, Taylor's, an historic and one of the oldest Port wine houses, which is part of the Fladgate Partnership (along with the Croft, Fonseca and Wiese & Krohn houses), and a company exclusively dedicated to Port wine production, founded in 1692 by Job Bearsley and whose administration is represented by Adrian Bridge, decided to recreate one of the company's first Port wine commercial shipments to the United Kingdom, by sending a 30 liter special limited edition Port wine cask which embarked on the #Taylor 325 sailboat at the Gaia quayside, on the 2nd of May to London - from the Douro river to the Thames, and through the Tower Bridge - where it will be delivered for a commemorative ceremony that will take place on the 11th May.

    The partnership with Ricardo Diniz, a portuguese singlehanded yachtman at the helm of the #Taylor325 sailboat, who designated this project "Retracing history!" and for whom: "Port wine is Portugal, it is our culture, our tradition (...) and this is what we must always reinforce!".

    After the delivery of this special cargo, Ricardo Diniz will then participate, with the Taylor's sponsorship, in the OSTAR race (Original Singlehanded Transatlantic Race). which will begin on May 29 and will link Plymouth in England and Newport, Rhode Island in the U.S., across the North Atlantic, and will be the first portuguese to participate in this competition.

    The #Taylor325 is a sailboat built in 1990, 20 meters long, tottaly restored and refurbished in Portugal and with portuguese materials, especially for this event. For the yachtman:"it is an honor to be present at these events with portuguese brands and also to represent a product that is so ours, which is Port wine".

    We should consider that the countries that are part of the #Taylor325 sail route, England and the U.S.A. are two historically very important markets for Taylor's and Port wine in general. According to 2016 Port wine data, United Kingdom Port wine sales volume represents the third most important market and the U.S. market, the fifth, on the other hand, if we consider the quantity of Port wine exported, the U.K. market is in fourth place and U.S. the sixth.

Taylor's 1692-2017: Recriando a história por mar!

e agora, para Londres!

#Taylor325: a viagem por mar de um vinho do Porto especial até Londres.

    Para a comemoração do seu 325º aniversário, que se celebra este ano, a Taylor's, uma histórica e das mais antigas casas de vinho do Porto, que integra a Fladgate Partnership (juntamente com as casa Croft, Fonseca e Wiese & Krohn), empresa ainda dedicada exclusivamente à produção de vinho do Porto, fundada em 1692 por Job Bearsley e cuja administração é actualmente representada por Adrian Bridge, decidiu recriar uma das primeiras viagens comerciais de exportação de vinho do Porto para o Reino Unido, com o envio de uma pipa de 30 litros de uma edição especial e limitada de vinho do Porto, que foi embarcada no veleiro #Taylor325, no cais de Gaia, no passado dia 2 de Maio, com destino a Londres - do Douro até ao Tamisa com passagem pela Tower bridge - onde será entregue para uma cerimónia comemorativa no próximo dia 11 de Maio.

    Em parceria com Ricardo Diniz, navegador solitário português, ao lema deste veleiro, e que designou o projecto como "Retracing history!" e para quem:"o vinho do Porto é Portugal, é a nossa cultura, a nossa tradição (...) e é isso que temos que reforçar sempre".

    Ricardo Diniz participará depois, com o patrocionio da  Taylor's, na competição OSTAR (Original Singlehanded Transatlantic Race), que se iniciará no próximo dia 29 de Maio e ligará Plymouth, em Inglaterra, a Newport, Rhode Island, nos E.U.A., através do Atlântico Norte, prova na qual será o primeiro portugês a participar.

    O veleiro #Taylor325 é uma embarcação construída em 1990, com 20 metros de comprimento, totalmente remodelado em Portugal e com materiais portugueses, especialmente para este evento. Para o navegador, "é uma honra estar presente nestes eventos, com marcas portuguesas e a representar um produto que é tão nosso, que é o vinho do Porto".

    Devemos considerar que estes países onde se marcará presença, Inglaterra e os E.U.A., são dois mercados historicamente importantes para a casa Taylor's e para o vinho do Porto em geral. De acordo com os dados de 2016 referentes à comercialização de vinho do Porto, em volume de negócios, o mercado do Reino Unido, aparece em terceiro lugar o o mercado dos E.U.A. em quinto, por outro lado se considerarmos apenas a quantidade exportada, o Reino Unido é o quarto mercado mais importante e os E.U.A., o sexto.
